Collect and Decorate with Textile Art
by Susan Rienzo
Decorating homes with quilts is not new. It’s known to be a warm and cozy choice. Quilts have been known as bed coverings for centuries and having a quilt folded over a chair or couch has always brought a sense of comfort. Art quilts, however, are a fairly new art form. Only 50 plus years in the making and it has been ‘slowly’ making ground breaking acceptance into the Art World. Art quilts have been treated as craft since it developed in the 1970’s, because it is mostly considered woman’s work. Some artists have knocked down barriers over the years, but there hasn’t been a universal acceptance by the art world.
The debate of Art-Craft-Design goes on.
And in the meantime, Art quilts have developed into a fine art, with meticulous craftsmanship, original design, it can be a perfect selection for your home decor.

Displaying an Art Quilt in your home need not be a daunting task. They are ready to hang just as if you would be hanging a painting. To display Textile Art in your home, preferably display it in a low light area and not in a bright lit window. Many pieces may be treated with a guarded spray by the artist to repel stains and prevent fading. Be sure and check with your artist upon purchase. You may also spray your piece once a year for continued protection.
