Circle Gets the Square

$450.00

Outside Frame 17x17

Actual Artwork 12x12

I began this artwork as a celebration of color. To that end, I dyed fabrics with thickened Procyon MX dyes, cut them into rectangles, and fused them onto a felt backing. I wanted to add X’s to add to the design and reference handstitch on textiles but have them added subtly. So I screened the x’s on faintly with fabric paint so that the bright colors are the main event. I added some hand stitches on top for texture. To mimic miniature seed stitch,I screened tiny lines onto the circle and also added some actual stitches in thread for texture here, too. I fused brightly colored fabric strips onto the edges and stitched X’s in black thread to help guide the eye back out from the center.

I used double sided tape and stitches to secure the artwork to a white mat board on a foam board and then framed it in a wooden, champagne metallic frame. The back is taped with framing tape and hanging wire is attached. It is ready to hang.
