Cherry Baskets

An overflowing woven basket is a sign of social and financial success. An empty basket symbolizes disappointment, sadness, and depression. I choose success over disappointment; these baskets are full of hearts and love. I have wanted to make a traditional basket quilt for a long time, and when I stumbled upon the color combinations of red and magenta, I knew I wanted it for my basket design.
Machine quilted with 30 weight rayon, 12 weight hand dyed cotton and 80 weight silk on my domestic B 770 and Q20 BERNINAs.
By using freezer paper templates, I am able to achieve beautiful, curved designs in my work. I have found that working with my own hand dyed fabrics gives me the depth and vibrancy of color that lifts my soul with their intensity. Using silk for the cherries and the leaves gives this quilt a shimmer that reflects their joy and the added buttons give it the character it deserves.
This quilt won Best Machine Quilting on a domestic machine at QuiltCon 2021.
It has a hanging sleeve on the back and is ready for display.
