ABOUT ELLEN NEPUSTIL

Ellen Nepustil is a fiber artist currently living in Florida with frequent travel back to Boulder, Colorado where she lived for most of her adult life. Ellen learned to sew as a young girl and never stopped while pursuing an education and career as an engineer.

Ellen is inspired by the world around her; the color of water and plants, th shapes of mountains and stones, the texture of sand and surfaces, her love of math and engineering. She captures these inspirations in the fabric she dyes and paints, her bed quilts wrap you in warmth and love. There is something about the tactile feel of fabric and paper that cannot be explained.

Ellen has used commercial fabric in her work, and  is now focusing on utilizing fabric that she has created with dyes or paint. Her bags, jackets and newest quilts feature this fabric.

Botanical printing, the art of using leaves to create imprints on silk or wool, is another passion of hers. Her favorite is eucalyptus on wool. Her scarves can be found on her website.

Other interests include making hand made paper using indigo, turmeric, corn husks, or even vines for color with cotton pulp.

Ellen loves to walk on the beach right at the water’s edge, preferably at low tide. When she is not in her studio or walking on the beach, she is usually hanging out with family and friends.
